So..

As of April 22, Superstore will be charging *.05 cents per bag unless you bring your own bag.

I don't know if I am 100% sold on the fact that the fabric bags are any better for the environment, I've never seen actual proof or studies that show it is? Like, how environmentally friendly is the process to produce those bags? Are those bags 100% recyclable? Where are they importing the bags from, are Canadians at plastic plants losing jobs because of it?

I also am not sure that Superstore selling the *.99 cent fabric bags are really reasonable, should they be marketing their own bags or should they be marketing someone elses? I can by different brand names of jams, but why do I need to by Superstores own fabric bag? What if I'd like to buy a cheaper alternative?...

That's my 5 cents, I'd like to hear yours

I was introduced to the "buy your own plastic bags" 4 years ago in Europe. They've been using this system for a long time and we are finally catching up.

Are the fabric bags more eco-friendly? Probably a little. The purpose of them is that they are re-usable for 100s of trips back and forth. A bit of a hassle to remember bringing them with you, but it WILL save on wasted plastic bags and help the environment.

I for one would never bring a used plastic bag to the store again. God knows that there's a little tear in it and all my food would end up on the pavement.

You also don't have to buy the "Superstore" bags. They are for sale at almost every grocery store, and probably dollar stores.

On a + side to the fabric bags, they are actually quite nice to carry food around with. You can pack them with ALOT of stuff and they don't blow up on you.

Expensive to start with, but so is everything else in this world if you want to make a "small" difference.

There us truth to what you say.

I was given a free bag on Earth Day for spending over $50 and I certainly could pack a lot into it.. was nice to only have to carry a few bags into the house instead of a million little ones lol..
